Europe 2012
Everyone at some point has had an awesome experience or moment; whether it’s scoring the winning point for a sport, travelling to different places, or simply passing a test. A significant experience in my lifetime happened this summer when I travelled to Europe for the first time without my family there with me. The school took a handful of students and it was an amazing experience for me.
Travelling to Europe with people from my school was thrilling. We were gone for two weeks and were in four different countries. I only was friends with a select few people who went. By the time the trip was over, I was friends with everyone and had made many memories with most of them. Being in Europe made me realize that there is more to the world than America and everything is so much different. When I say it was way different, I’m not just saying the time difference. The food, music, people, driving styles, currency and activities are different. When we first got to Europe, we were all trying to soak it all in that we were actually across the ocean in a different country. We were up for thirty or more hours straight, and when we landed we had a whole day planned ahead of us because of the time change. We all weren’t sure what to do with ourselves because we couldn’t use our cell phones over there; it was nice to get away for a while. Throughout the trip we visited Germany, France, Monaco, and Spain. Germany was probably the best out of all of them, however; when we were in Germany I thought it was for sure going to be the worst. Going to Europe was a big life experience for me. Not only did I have to manage my money for two weeks by myself (with a different currency), but I also had to have fun with people I didn’t reallyknow. By the time the trip
was over, I was more than ready to be home. It was something not most people get to do in a lifetime, and I was glad I did it.
What this experience made me realize was that how lucky I was to be only a 17 year old going to Europe. Most people don’t have the money to send their kids over there by themselves for two weeks. It had a huge impact on me. Not only that I was in a different country, but that it was something different that I will probably never
experience again unless I get the money to do so. It also made me realize that I like living where I live, and I would never live there. It was way too fast paced for me, and the driving over there is very scary. All in all, travelling is one of the best experiences in that everyone should get to enjoy.
